MASTER’S DEGREE IN COMMUNICATION DESIGN

The world of communication is constantly evolving, our changing society requires new and original communication methods. Because of these challenges, anyone aspiring to work in the communication field needs to own skills and assets that allow them to operate with ease across all areas of project design, understand and engage with the latest representation and communication tools, as well as interpret the dynamic needs of an increasingly global clientele. The MA in Communication design is geared towards all bachelor’s degree graduate who wish to purses a career in the field of visual communication. It foster innovative learining techniques, methods, and languages, aimed at developing a personal design approach capable of engaging positively and effectively with the future market demand.



The MA in Communication Design builds upon the foundational techniques and methodologies of Communication Design, further advancing them to support the development and execution of professional communication projects. Students will work on projects promoting companies, brands, products, or initiatives. Guided by a Faculty of experienced professionals from various sectors of communication, students will interact with potential future clients, whether for commercial and production companies or in creating communication campaigns for public entities and non-profit organizations.



Requirements
Applicants to the Master of Arts Degree Program must hold an Italian Bachelor’s Degree corresponding to the requirements of the course, as well as any other qualification obtained abroad, recognized as suitable by the Academy in compliance with current regulations and international agreements.
Students holding an Italian BA in disciplines related to the chosen study path are directly admitted. Based on the documentation submitted during the application process and verification of the requirements, as well as the documents confirming the candidate’s educational background, the Admissions Office will issue a direct admission letter.
Students holding a Bachelor’s Degree not related to the course they are applying for must pass an admission test. The admission test consists of a motivational interview and the evaluation of a portfolio of the candidate’s original works. In exceptional cases, a technical test may be required as a substitute for the portfolio.
Registration with Reserve: Students who will obtain their Bachelor degree by the winter session of February/March of the academic year following the one for which they are applying for enrollment, may be registered with reserve for the first year of the two-year program. If the Bachelor degree diploma is not obtained and the reserve is not lifted, the registration will be canceled.
First Year
Students will explore the various project types that define the increasingly complex communication landscape. Areas of focus include image processing techniques, text creation, market and target analysis, brand definition, and Campaign planning for both for analog and digital platforms. Particular emphasis is placed on integrating the skills necessary for approaching the work life in a communication agency, focusing on the importance of multidisciplinary team-work.
Second Year
Students can choose between two Majors: Art Direction and Advertising.

Specializations
This Major equips students with the skills needed to transform a concept into a visual communication project, creating a coordinated image reflecting the brand identity of a company, public institution, or non-profit client. Students will gain experience in various sectors, from manufacturing to services, applying a range of skills including creative concept development, project planning, execution, and distribution across traditional and non-traditional media.
This Major focuses on the skills needed to conceive, execute, and manage advertising campaigns. Students will become familiar with the tools and methods used in developing texts and narratives aligned with the client’s brand identity. Advertising students will explore different techniques ranging from spin marketing to guerrilla marketing while also learining how to convay different messages through various media platforms. Students will also delve into the study of strategies like product placement and influencer marketing, addressing the specific needs and demands of mass-markets as well as more niche and specialized audiences.

The program’s workshops provide a platform for learning, developing, and experimenting with conceptual skills and diverse aspects of communication, therefore becoming a critical space for interdisciplinary synthesis and creativity.
Additionally, students will enhance key soft-skills such as developing strong interpersonal skills with the ability to assess client needs and effectively coordinate complex communication initiatives.
Graduates will be able to conceive, design, and execute corporate and product communication projects using tools of visual communication. These include corporate branding, product communication, editorial graphics, multimedia and audiovisual publishing, web design, advertising campaign planning, and communication strategies for social networks and online platforms.
Graduates can pursue careers as freelance professionals or collaborate with companies, advertising agencies, or communication firms.

From the 2025/2026 Academic Year, the Master of Arts in Communication Design can be attended in two different formats, designed to meet the needs of students with different backgrounds, schedules, and life paths:
● On-site, at the Udine campus
● Hybrid, through the new ABA Flex program
ABA Flex is a dynamic attendance option that allows you to take classes online three days a week, while maintaining direct contact with instructors and fellow students through six in-person meetings each year (three per semester), known as Residentials, held at our Udine campus.
Live online classes:

● Friday: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
● Saturday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
In-person Residentials:
● Thursday: 2:00 PM – 9:00 PM

● Saturday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

The ABA Flex program maintains the same course content and Academic Credits as the traditional format, as well as the same assessment methods, teaching staff, and, of course, the final qualification: the Master of Arts Degree in Communication Design.
You can choose your preferred attendance format at the time of enrollment and switch at the end of each semester if needed.
