The Vaia storm was an extreme meteorological event that affected northeastern Italy—par- ticularly the mountainous areas of the Dolomites and the Venetian Prealps—from October 26 to 30, 2018. It originated from an Atlantic weather disturbance, which, as part of a severe wave of bad wea- ther across Italy (also impacting neighboring regions of Switzerland, Austria, and Slovenia), brought powerful winds and persistent rainfall to the area.
This book is not just a record of Vaia’s tumultuous days but an invitation to reflect on our role as stewards of the Earth. Through a combination of visual storytelling and precise data, it aims to deliver a tangible message of hope and commitment toward a sustainable future. This is a journey of aware- ness, reflection, and action, guided by the power of data and the beauty of visual narration.
